Why a van
A van is the setup people underestimate. Your equipment is locked and out of the weather, your chemicals do not freeze overnight in winter, the whole vehicle is a billboard, and you can park it anywhere a car fits. In the years we ran our own washing company we ran vans alongside trailers and skids, and for a solo operator or a two-person residential crew that works year-round, the van was often the most professional-looking and lowest-hassle rig on the road.
The trade-offs are real: less water than a trailer, tighter access to the machine, and a gas engine running inside a box, which means exhaust and ventilation have to be designed in, not improvised.
What fits in a van
| Van | Cargo | What we put in it |
|---|---|---|
| Transit Connect, ProMaster City, small cargo vans | Compact | Micro Mini soft wash skid or a 12V soft wash system with a 50 gallon slim tank |
| Transit / Sprinter low roof | Mid | Van Skid 2.0 or Expert Mini V2 (48 x 48 in), one machine, 100 gal slim tank, two reels |
| Transit / Sprinter high roof, extended | Full | Full Transit Van Build: machine, soft wash, 100 to 200 gal, electric reels, storage |
Vans have less payload than most people assume. Water is 8.3 pounds per gallon, so 100 gallons is over 800 pounds before the skid, machine, reels and chemical. Check the door sticker before you commit to a tank size.
Exhaust, ventilation and safety
A Honda engine produces carbon monoxide, and a closed van is a closed box. Every van build we do routes engine exhaust outside the vehicle and provides ventilation for the engine and for chemical fumes. If you are building your own, this is the one thing not to get creative with. It is also why we favor a skid that can be pulled out for service rather than components bolted permanently to the van floor.
Skid in a van vs. a purpose-built van build
A drop-in skid like the Expert Mini V2 or the fully loaded Van Skid 2.0 goes into the cargo area with a forklift, keeps your van resellable, and moves to your next vehicle. A purpose-built van build like the Transit Pressure Washing Van uses the whole cargo space, integrates storage and electric reels, and looks like a finished commercial vehicle inside and out. Which is right depends on whether you plan to keep the van five years or lease it for three.
What is on every EPW van setup
Aircraft-grade aluminum frames with a lifetime warranty, Honda engines only, block-mounted unloaders, full-frame aluminum reels with stainless internals, FierceJet hose, Kuri Tec plumbing, full-stainless clamps, USA-made marine-grade wiring and an Interstate marine battery. Every detail is on Why EPW Builds Are Different.

Common questions
Can you run a gas pressure washer inside a van?
Yes, if the exhaust is routed outside the vehicle and the cargo area is ventilated for both engine heat and chemical fumes. Every van build we do is designed around that. It is the one part of a van setup you should never improvise.
How much water can a pressure washing van carry?
Most Transit and Sprinter builds carry 100 gallons in a slim buffer tank, and a high-roof extended van can carry 200. Water is 8.3 pounds per gallon, so check the payload sticker on the door before you pick a tank; 100 gallons is over 800 pounds before the equipment.
Which van is best for pressure washing?
Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter mid and high roof vans are what we build in most. A Transit Connect or ProMaster City works for a compact soft wash rig. Pick the van for payload and rear door access first, then we size the skid to it.
Should I put a skid in my van or do a full van build?
A drop-in skid comes out with a forklift and moves to your next van, which matters if you lease. The Expert Mini V2 is the lower-cost route and the Van Skid 2.0 is the fully loaded version. A full Transit Van Build uses the whole cargo space with integrated storage and electric reels and looks like a finished commercial vehicle; if you keep your vans, it pays off.
How much does a pressure washing van setup cost?
A drop-in Expert Mini V2 skid starts around $13,500, the fully loaded Van Skid 2.0 is just under $30,000, and a complete Transit Van Build is $26,500, none of which includes the van itself. Every build includes the washer, soft wash system, reels, tanks and plumbing, plus training. Financing is available.
