What a pressure washing skid is, and who it is for
A skid is a self-contained washing rig built on a single aluminum frame that sits in the bed of a pickup or on a flatbed. The pressure washer, buffer tank, soft wash system, hose reels and plumbing are all mounted to the frame, so the whole system goes in with a forklift and comes back out the same way. If you already own a truck and want to be washing this week without buying and licensing a trailer, a skid is the fastest path.
We ran our own washing company for more than a decade before we started building. We ran trailers, box trucks, flatbeds, vans and skids, and the skid is what we kept coming back to for a two-person crew doing residential and commercial work. Our builds are designed around what broke, rattled loose or leaked on ours.
Skid vs. trailer vs. van
The short version: a skid keeps your truck bed usable for nothing else but costs less and needs no extra registration or insurance, a trailer frees the truck and carries more water but adds towing and parking headaches, and a van keeps everything locked and dry but limits tank size. We wrote the long version here: Skid vs. Trailer vs. Van: which setup is right for your business.
Sizing a skid to your truck
| Truck | Bed | Skids that fit |
|---|---|---|
| Kei truck, Tacoma, Ranger, Maverick | 5 to 6 ft | Kei Truck Mini, Ranger Tacoma Skid, Expert Mini V2 (48 x 48 in), Micro Mini |
| Half-ton short bed (F-150, Silverado 1500, Ram 1500) | 5.5 to 6.5 ft | Ultimate Mini (5.5 ft x 44 in), Expert Mini V2 |
| Half-ton and three-quarter-ton standard bed | 6.5 ft | Workhorse, Ultimate Mini, Double Trouble |
| Three-quarter and one-ton long bed, flatbed, service body | 8 ft | 8 ft Service Body Skid, Cameron's Double Trouble 8 ft, Jay's 8 ft, Max Flow |
Check your truck's payload rating before you pick a tank size. Water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon, so a 100-gallon buffer tank is over 800 pounds before you add the machine, reels, chemical and fuel. A half-ton truck runs a 100-gallon skid comfortably; if you want two machines and 200 gallons, you are in three-quarter-ton territory.
Choosing the machine
Flow, not pressure, is what cleans faster. A 4 GPM machine is fine for a solo residential operator. 5.5 GPM is the sweet spot for most residential and light commercial work. If you are serious about growing into commercial flatwork, our standing recommendation is a gear-drive Honda GX690 at 8 GPM and 3,500 PSI with a block-mounted, flow-sensitive Pulsar unloader. We block-mount every unloader instead of hanging it off the pump, because pump vibration is what kills unloaders. Read more: 4 GPM vs. 5.5 GPM vs. 8 GPM: what size pressure washer do you actually need.
Want two guns running at once? Run two machines. In all our washing years we never ran two guns off one engine, and neither should you. The Double Trouble and Max Flow skids are built for exactly that.
Soft wash on every skid
Every skid ships with a soft wash system, because house and roof washing is where the margin is. A 12V FloJet pump with a metering mixer is standard; upgrade to a gas soft wash system if you are doing large roofs or commercial soft wash daily. Mixers use Hastelloy-spring check valves and Viton-seal mixing valves so sodium hypochlorite does not eat them. How a soft wash mixing system works.
What is on every EPW skid
- 5052 aircraft-grade aluminum, quarter-inch plate where most builders use eighth-inch, welded not bolted, double-braced with gussets and forklift pockets. Lifetime frame warranty; none has ever broken.
- Honda engines only, with upgraded pumps and a block-mounted unloader on an oversized whip line.
- Full-frame aluminum hose reels with stainless internals, FierceJet non-marking hot-water-rated pressure hose, Kuri Tec plumbing hose, full-stainless clamps and 316 stainless mounting hardware.
- Buffer tanks about twice the wall thickness of typical builder tanks, held down with heavy-duty straps so they do not walk under 800 pounds of water.
- USA-made marine-grade stranded copper wiring, properly fused, running off an Interstate marine Gold Series battery kept charged by an upgraded charging system.
- Free hands-on training at our Oregon City shop and phone troubleshooting for as long as you own it.

Common questions
How much does a pressure washing skid cost?
Complete EPW skids run from roughly $13,000 for a compact single-machine setup like the Expert Mini V2 or Ultimate Mini to over $35,000 for a two-machine, 300-gallon Max Flow. Every price on this page is for a finished, plumbed, tested rig with a Honda-powered washer, soft wash system, reels and tanks, not a bare frame. Financing is available on all of them.
Will a pressure washing skid fit in a half-ton truck?
Yes. The Ultimate Mini (5.5 ft x 44 in) and Expert Mini V2 (48 x 48 in) are designed for short-bed half-tons like the F-150, Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500, and the Workhorse fits a 6.5 ft bed. Check your payload rating: a 100-gallon tank is over 800 pounds of water before the machine and reels.
Do I need a trailer or a skid?
If you already own a truck and want the lowest cost and no extra registration or insurance, a skid. If you need more than about 200 gallons of water, want to unhook and use the truck, or run two crews, a trailer. We wrote a full comparison in our Skid vs. Trailer vs. Van guide.
Why aluminum instead of steel or poly?
Aluminum does not rust when sodium hypochlorite inevitably drips on it, and at quarter-inch thickness it is stronger than the eighth-inch stock most skids are built from. We never ran poly skids in our own washing business and never wanted to. Our aluminum frames carry a lifetime warranty and none has ever broken.
Can I run two guns off one pressure washer?
You can, but you will be disappointed with the pressure at both guns. In ten-plus years of washing we never did it; when we wanted two guns we added a second machine. That is exactly what the Double Trouble and Max Flow skids are built for.
How long does a custom skid take, and do you ship?
Ready Now skids are built and tested and can ship this week. Custom builds are usually a few weeks depending on the queue and components. We ship nationwide by freight, and we would rather you come pick it up in Oregon City so we can walk you through it and do your training in person.
